Seller Success: Growth is Constant

Hi everyone! Grace here, excited to talk to you all about some cool new tricks for bettering yourself (and possibly making money in the process).

At Bonanza, part of what makes us unique among marketplaces is that we are highly focused on the needs of our sellers. Much of Bonanza’s success over the past several years is thanks to the sellers - both old and new - that make up the Bonanza community. In return, we aim to support that community by designing tools, creating content, and updating features that make selling online a breeze.

One of Bonanza’s core values is that growth is constant. We recognize that we don’t know it all but we are committed to making a better version of ourselves every day. In keeping with that mindset, I’d like to share with you some ways that Bonanza sellers can be even more successful.

Get to Know Your Community

You might be reading this and thinking to yourself, “Sure, there are some pretty active sellers on the site. But I’m still new to Bonanza - surely you’re not talking to me.” You’ll be happy to hear that yes, I am in fact talking to you! Everyone was new around here at some point or another. What better way to make yourself at home than by getting to know the Bonanza community?

It’s not hard to feel inspired by the wonderful group of sellers on Bonanza. You can ask for sage advice from some of our most tenured sellers, see what kinds of deals and promotions are going on right now, or make friends with other sellers who are currently online. It’s not all fun and games, but we have some of that too.

Knowledge is Power

It’s no secret that it takes some moxie to sell online. Determination and drive are important aspects of being a successful entrepreneur. Since you’re here reading this post, it’s safe to assume you’re an intelligent, ambitious, likeable person (not to mention funny and cute, but that’s beside the point).

Put your smarts to use and sign up to teach on Skillshare. What is Skillshare, you ask? Well, it’s pretty much what it sounds like - a community of people who are sharing their skills online. Skillshare classes fall into a wide variety of topics, including Crafts, DIY, Entrepreneurship, Fashion, Gaming, Photography, and Creativity. These classes consist of a series of video lessons broken down into bite-sized videos that are all pre-recorded and self-paced. It’s a great way to earn a passive income - once your class is live on Skillshare, you earn royalties when others participate in the class. And, in the spirit of bettering ourselves - you can also take this opportunity to learn a new skill that you’ve been wanting to master for awhile.

Submit an Idea

We’ve all been taught that two heads are better than one. At Bonanza we believe that 35,000 heads are better than one. That’s why we ask for your ideas on how to improve the site. We pride ourselves on building a product that serves the needs of our users, so we love to hear about ways to enhance your Bonanza experience.

Some of our favorite features have come from seller feedback - the Customer Marketing Tool, internal item note capabilities, and our Global Shipping Service, to name a few. Dr. Wayne Dyer said “When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” We love having such a diverse group of sellers because it provides us with countless perspectives to the complicated issues we aim to solve every day.

The Only Constant is Change

Things are happening around us at incredible speeds all the time. In the 5 minutes it took you to read this blog post, 290 airplanes have taken off, 580 people got married, and 1,250 babies were born. Lightning has struck the earth 1,800 times and Oprah has made $2,615 (seriously!). With the world changing constantly, the best thing to do is change with it. Become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday and try make the world a better place, one day at a time.

Growth is constant, and so is adversity.

I recently wrote an article about TurboTraffic and the Global Shipping Program Bonanza is adopting. I’m going to hope that for the global shipping program the respective teams looked at eBay’s success or failings with that feature because it seemed in many cases on eBay to add excess charges for international customers and they were not fans.

It seemed like a great idea because many sellers simply do not know how to fill out customs forms or that they’re printable from most online shipping tools that provide shipping labels. In short, I would make sure Bonanza does not fall down the same hole of overcharging international customers when it should simply serve the purposes I need not go into here without adding the extra burden of any costs to them.

TurboTraffic is where my article found the largest issue. In order for this to work it would appear that traffic or listings would need to be prioritized based on who has paid for a certain level of membership no? If this is the case and we are witnessing the throttling of traffic and creation of a pay for play market on Bonanza then you’ve willingly or unwittingly destroyed the marketplace in the long term for smaller sellers.

What happens when large merchants join the Bonanza marketplace like they have most others once it gained a certain level of market or consumer visibility? They can create specific budgets and expense it out to always push their products to the top of the market while the smaller seller gets placed god knows where. Keep in mind as well most of these larger merchants sell at prices that undercut small sellers and most of their items are generic at best.

Change can be good, just don’t make the changes worse like ebay has done. When the site becomes less focused on the seller it tends to make it worse for the buyer too.

gep_shop says: 11/04/16 at 20:34:28

Good to be changed, but please do not like ebay have done, more focused about the seller is better way, thanks.

Good blog post, however, my experience with Bonanza sales has been slow, to none. I have over 400 items in my store, but at only 2 sales a month, it doesn’t cover fees. Please address the small seller with more precise helps.
Thanks!

More SEO is needed. I don’t make any sales unless I use my email marketing.

I’m ready to leave this loser site no sales no nothing. Have well over 100 views on one item 50!60+ views on my other crafts have 50+ handcrafted items no sales overwhelming views Been here almost a year on pay as you go advert with over million viewers.

FarmhouseGifts says: 11/22/16 at 00:46:25

I’ve just opened my shop here a few days ago. I’m hoping I do as well here as I do on my other online shops. From all the reviews I’ve read, it sounds like shops really struggle here. Sad to here that because this could be a gold mine of a site for everyone if we could get the buyers in and not just the window shoppers. You think it’s a trust issue with the buyers? Have a few bad apples/shops given Bonanza a bad name? Just curious cause sounds like sellers are getting views but no sales.

Hello, everyone, and I understand your comments & concerns over getting sales. I’ve been here almost 3 yrs now, our sales are up, We’ve struggled a good long time to find out what helps us. Number one, get some kind of membership, be it silver is fine, to start of course. Upgrade your advertising to 30% and rise your prices, if needs be to keep your margins. Add some turbo traffic, as you can afford to buy one. Besides that, keep your items current in google, by clicking your update button every few days in “add items” page. Good luck to all, We LOVE it here! I predict it seems hard, but when it’s working, it’s worth every penny coming in regularly, you’ll love it too! THANKS to all Bonanza’s team help over our time spent with you guys. I consider ya’ll my business family. Happy Thanksgiving!
