Item description for Vintage Poseidon Neptune Riding Seahorse Green Stones Clip On Earrings

This is a great pair of vintage clip on earrings with a Seahorse and a bearded man riding on it. It may represent Nereus, who was known as the Old Man of the Sea. He had the power to change forms and is usually depicted with a beard, riding a sea-horse in the entourage of Poseidon. It could also be Proteus, Poseidon’s son. He is also often shown riding on a Seahorse. It might also be Poseidon himself, who in Greek mythology is the God of the Sea and one of the twelve Olympian deities. The earrings are a silver tone metal with two green glass or jade stones. I’m not sure if they are actual gemstones, or art glass. Each earring measures approximately 1 ¼ inches tall and ¾ of an inch wide. They are not signed.

These earrings are in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. I have not polished them; I will leave that up to you as many people prefer the older warm patina that forms with age. The clip-on backs are nice and secure. These are perfect to wear with your favorite pair of jeans for a casual day out. They are sure to bring lots of compliments and be a conversation starter. They will be a wonderful addition to your collection of vintage figural jewelry, or for anyone who collects seahorses. They would also make a nice gift for anyone born under the sign of Aquarius.
