This is an unusual vintage silver tone metal 72” long necklace. It is called a Mexican or Guatemalan Chain Wedding or Bridal Necklace and was used to drape over the heads of a bride and groom at their wedding ceremony. This was most likely purchased in Mexico in the 1960s. It is an interesting piece of vintage handcrafted Ethnic jewelry. The silver tone metal is unmarked; a magnet does not stick to it. It is most likely low purity silver or a low silver alloy.

This chain link necklace reminds me of a twisted double helix you see in a strand of DNA. It is composed of many little rope textured circles (see close up photo) that form the twists due to the design and positioning of the links.  If the necklace could be stretched out it would measure approximately 72 inches from end to end, it hangs down 36 inches. There is no clasp, this is a continuous chain that slips easily over the head and can be worn long like a Flapper necklace or doubled or even tripled wrapped around the neck to create different lengths and different looks, it is very versatile. It is close to 3/8 of an inch wide. It is fairly light and weighs 2.5 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 70.87 grams.

This is in great vintage condition with a nice rich old patina as you can see by the enlarged photographs. I have not polished this as many people prefer the patina that comes only with age. There are no missing links and all are secured. It is very well made.

This is a show stopper necklace; you will have many compliments on this unique piece of jewelry. It is both bold looking and elegant. It would make an imaginative bridal shower gift.
