JOE PYE WEED. American native wildflower. Thrives in full sun. Attracts all kinds of butterflies and Bees. A tall good-looking plant. Pretty much carefree after established. Lots of 8" clusters of tiny pink flowers at the top of the plant. Blooms all summer into fall with a strong vanilla scent. Perennial. JOE PYE has a very long-life span (10 years+) once the root system becomes established, they can be divided after 3rd year and beyond. JOE PYE will spread through reseeding and a extensive rhizomes root system. After the growing season is over cut JOE PYE down to the ground, and in spring new plants will pop up from the root-ball and start growing. Grows fast and gets very tall in Full sun with steady water. JOE PYE is hard to find in the wild anymore, but usually grows in open savannas and prairies. JOE PYE WEED likes steady water but will tolerate some drought. Some American Native Wildflower seeds need to go through a cold winter to germinate. This plant is one of them. They do this so the seed won’t sprout in fall, only to have the seedling not make it through a cold winter.
