STRAWS AND PRAYER-BOOKS
by James Branch Cabell
Robert M. McBride & Co., 1924
First Edition, First Printing
Condition: Very Good Minus

This book could be said to be Cabell's philosophy of life. But at least he's amusing, especially in the Foreward and Afterword, in which he correctly predicts that he'll be remembered as the man who wrote JURGEN. A contemporary review of the book and a loose bookplate are inserted in the front endpapers. There is some print offsetting from the review, as well as a name written, on the endpapers. The print on the spine is faded and there are tears at the spine head; the cover corners are somewhat bent and there is a bit of edge damage near one of them. The lower page edges are uneven (at least two pages are still attached along that edge), and there is some pencil underlining/marking in the text, as well as a few small stains. Still, a pretty decent copy with no jacket.
