Raised Design Union Flower
Houses of Lancaster and York

According to the little pamphlet with this necklace, it is a “Limited Edition medallion that was created especially for Hampton National Bank by the master artisans at Towle Silversmiths. It is a high quality heavy pewter pendant and necklace. The raised design, known as the Tudor Rose was brought to America by early settlers of the New Hampshire seacoast. As a heraldic symbol, the rose stands for gentleness allied with courage, and the promise of beauty’s reward for valor. The Tudor Rose, with its two layers of petals, originally symbolized the uniting of the Houses of Lancaster and York following the War of Roses, and was truly an early symbol of peace”.

The back of the circular pendant is signed “Towle Pewter” and has the maker’s mark, which is the logo of a ships wheel with two stars underneath it.  It is in the original box marked Towle Silversmiths.  The pendant measures approximately 2 inches in diameter and has a 28 inch long pewter chain.

This flower, also referred to as the Union Rose, is in great vintage condition as you can see by the many enlarged photographs. The photos have a bluish tint to them, but that is the camera photography, the pendant is silver in color. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the condition better than I can describe.

The pendant necklace is a unique piece of wearable art and will look spectacular for any occasion. This would also look great on a ribbon or hanging as an ornament in a window or as the focal point in a shadow box. It is a wonderful gift for any historian who is interested in the Tudor dynasty.
