This is a stunning and unusual brass Dragon clasp or buckle that was made of two separate pieces with symmetrical sides. There is fantastic detail in the craftsmanship. This type of buckle was originally used for securing a nurse’s cape or a cloak and was often made of brass, silverplate or sterling.  It can also be used as a buckle on a belt, by attaching the sides to the ends of a belt. The two sections of the buckle fasten together using the clasp. The buckle measures approximately 3 inches across at the widest point and 2 ½ inches tall, it is unsigned. The buckle is accented with two marbled green cabochons (I believe them to be Peking Glass). Each stone is ½ inch in diameter and bezel set. Each section or half of the buckle is 1 ½ inches wide.  I did find another buckle exactly like this one on the Internet, it was marked as a Victorian Dragon Buckle in sterling silver and signed Foster and Bailey. I believe if you do a Google search it will come up in the images.

This clasp buckle is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The back has tarnished areas from the soldering and from age. I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that only comes with age. I will leave any polishing up to you. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone who loves Dragons. How great this exquisite piece of jewelry would be mounted to a cape to wear to the next Renaissance Fair you attend.  It is a spectacular unique decorative piece of wearable art.
