Descripción del Artículo
This is a vintage Chesebrough Vaseline jar embossed on the front, "Chesebrough -Manfg. Co. CD - New York" According to the references below, this wording was used between 1938 and 1945. The apothecary jar is screw topped, although the top is missing. My father, an avid bottle digger, found this old World War II era remedy bottle in the ruins of an old homestead in Virginia more than 40 years ago. Its in nice shape, with the exception of a small chip, air pocket at the base. Clarity is excellent and embossing sharp. The vintage medicine bottle measures about 2.75" x 2".
Robert Chesebrough developed Vaseline and trademarked it in 1872 as a petroleum jelly "for medicinal, pharmaceutical and toilet purposes." Originally touted as an ointment base it became a home remedy used to treat wounds, burns, croup, colds, dry hands and a plethora of other afflictions. It was even ingested.
