Listen Up If You Want Your Precious Features...!

Yesterday a new feature was added to the "Next Up Improvements" list wherein if you have voted for a feature, you can leave a comment on what your specific vision for the feature is. For the top two user selected choices ("More combined shipping options" and "better booth custom categories"), the programmer would love to hear some specific opinions from you voters about how specifically you see these features working, and what sites the programmer might want to look to as reference for how they ought to work. Failure to opine may result in delay of feature implementation. Yikes!

Combined Shipping: Ebay’s system is simple and it works. Why reinvent the wheel? Most buyers and sellers are already familiar with it so there would be no user learning curve or need for yet another tutorial on how to use the site. If the idea of using an ebay anything as a model is just to bitter a pill to swallow, BUYITSELLIT has a good one too with boxes, not drop down menus so nothing gets missed. Very easy and it works.

I agree that eBay’s system works best, all the buyers will understand it. Hey, this may be one of the few nice things I have left to say about that site! Besides, I keep forgetting to change the drop down from UPS to USPS!

ok I’m not seeing where I can leave specific comments in the voting area so I’m going to respond here

I did vote for the custom categories. I found a workaround right now (the one posted on the boards, using a tag phrase in the description that matches a custom category with the same words). I like tagging that you can use on many blog sites (Livejournal, etc), and I think that would work the same here for creating categories within a booth, wouldn’t it? Rather than trying to fit an item into a pre-defined category.

Also, I’d like the category box to be longer. I’d like my buyers to see all their category options at once without having to scroll down.

shipping calculator – some of us cannot give a specific shipping rate on a listing. Example witch blow mold to texas is 24.25 – shipping to Ohio is 10.. something a HUGE difference. Also ability to add insurance a must.

Ability to make/adjust invoices to customers. Sending them to OBO is very confusing to them and we will stand to lose cust’s that are in a hurry and don’t want to keep going back and forth.
Thank you so much for your consideration.

I agree with Sofyblu2, shipping calculator and insurance, I deal in breakables and collectibles mostly all things that need to be insured and dinnerware that cant be bought in stores any longer doesnt weigh exactly the same amount each time and the invoicing would be wonderful as well! Thanks so much!

I absolutely agree on the shipping calculator, we have such a varied booth and need to be able to have a calculator for weight based shipping. This also makes it much easier to combine shipping weight based as well.

I also like the idea of tagging for categories, I think that would work very well and it just makes sense! I see it used on Etsy and I love it.

I would like to see custom categories expanded. I sell clothing, and would like to see a way to do cat’s by size also. Example: Boys size 10/12, Boys size 14/16, Girls size 8, and so on. I think it would help buyers to be able to go right to the size they are looking for instead of having to search listings for just one size. Thanks for your consideration.

Booth Categories-
How baout a drop down sub-category for our booth categories? When I list items, I am able to choose a cat and a sub-cat, so why not in my booth for buyers? I sell a variety clothing also and there is just a clothing, shoes & acces. cat for my booth. Sux for someone looking for boys clothes to have to wade thru the girl stuff.

I would love to be able to set up my custom categories, then in batch edit, choose the custom catefory I put it in. Simple, one step. And my booth is organized and easy to browse. When adding new items, the ability to choose which booth custom category would be great there too.
Site categories I am happy with as is.

I like the idea of drop downs for the buyers. For me: Quilt Fabric: within that I have a ton of ways people like to see their bying options (by brand, by type, and by cut/fabric length.)

I like the idea of being able to have one header (Fabric) in the initial booth view so that my art customers are not seeing 20 fabric categories.

I would like to see a zip/weight based shipping calculator also with the ability to combine a per item cost, ex. $1.00 for each additional item. While Blujay doesnt have the calculator, see the site for the per item combined shipping which is very good.

Also I havent seen this mentioned yet, and it may not be popular, but the ability to add a small handling fee for fragile items, I sell live plants that are extremely fragile and required special packaging care, I am sure that some sellers of glassware would agree. Perhaps you could cap it at $3-4 maximum so that it doesn’t get abused like on feebay.

A shipping calculator thank really works and must include international.
The ability to customize an invoice. Especially if a buyer is buying multiple items that may have different shipping methods.(media & 1st class) Or items that may need to ship in separate packages and require 2 shipping lables.

I agree that eBay’s system really does work the best. These are critical for both sellers and buyers.

nflgirl says: 10/16/08 at 18:28:53

Ditto for all the above! These are musts for a whole bunch of sellers. Longer booth categories, shipping calculator including insurance and international, drop-down categories, additional categories to list an item…you know, all the above! Very Important Stuff!

Rolosnickers says: 01/09/09 at 22:44:46

I never use the shipping calculator..It’s never correct and usually overcharges. I ship only first class and Priority. Insurance that is an optional for the buyer would be a plus.
