Bonanza should give these new members some kind of discount for there first purchase

If Bonanza would give some kind of discount on a first purchase to new members they might get there feet wet instead of just browse

I am selling items elsewhere

The sellers follow the money, if you build it they will come

I agree. Mercari, Poshmark and other places do it more than just once also. It certainly would help.

That’s definitely an incentive, but – and I’m not trying to be negative here, just facing facts – A) You can give people a discount on their first item yourself if you wish and B) ideas that spend other people’s money are always the easiest.

MaydaMart, I know where you are coming from, but really, those other sites are quite active!

It’s a nice gesture but with looking at the numbers, it would not be feasible for Bonanza to do this on a regular basis, especially at 3.5% amd 9%, out comes part of that FVF for advertising on Google shopping, too. At 30% though and the one below there would seem to be more flexibility with those percentages.

One time though when I was doing the free trial gold membership (not sure if it was because of that specifically), I did get a sale where Bonanza waived some, if not all, of the FVF. So there is something in there that they do try to do. Sorry, I cannot remember all of the specifics. It’s been months back now. They had somehow promoted that listing especially.

This idea would not be about me, it would be about building the traffic to the site.

zappys_closet says: March 05, 2018

Bonanza should be all over the place claiming to be climbing over ebay on its way to the top. I know I sold items at eBay, Etsy and had a few items that are being picked up today from letgo and that was a Sunday evening.

zappys_closet says: March 05, 2018

I pimped my Bonanza stuff online for 4 days and got some views but no sales. Yesterday I did nothing with marketing and still sold at other sites and only 2 views here. What’s real is the sellers are going to be where they can sell. I have no issue with 10% FVF if my items are moving.

zappys_closet says: March 05, 2018

I think a classified site should charge for listing and when your item sales take that listing fee out of the fvf if the item sales. This would eliminate some sellers that well let’s say should not be selling and items that are not worth listing.

EmpressDepot says: March 05, 2018

I know. In the bigger picture I know what you are saying. Ultimately I just do not see how they can consistently, especially when a seller has their listings set at 3.5% FVF or 9% FVF, offer each new shopper a first time discount. I’d rather have them use extra money toward advertising the site….

EmpressDepot says: March 05, 2018

using different channels. They have actually started to do this. Look through the blogs and you’ll find a blog on some new advertising they are doing.

EmpressDepot says: March 05, 2018

However, (and I know you said it’s not about you but I’m thinking out loud) I am for giving me a discount on FVF if a shopper comes directly to my listing from elsewhere on the internet other than Google shopping & directly through Bonanza due to my own SEO and promoting.,..that is when I start…

EmpressDepot says: March 05, 2018

promoting lol. I’m not a natural at promoting.

misskeech says: March 05, 2018

Empress, I am on those other sites also, and I dont pay for advertising. The people are already there., I am NOT trying to get people to go there, but if Bonanza would just follow what they do, I think it would draw more here.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

I understand what you are saying, Misskeech. Believe me, I wish for more sales also. There are smaller sites that are still slow. If sellers want to have their listings appear in Google shopping they have to pay a little more when the item sells. There’s another site, cannot remember the name of…

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

it that is really slow, too. If a buyer comes directly to their site, they do not pay an FVF but if the buyer comes to the seller’s store directly from the website they are selling on, from then on out, even if the buyer is a returning customer, they always have to pay the FVF. Just saying that…

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

every site has their drawbacks. Webstore is slow, Atomic Mall is slow. Etsy has good traffic and so does eBay, maybe their are a few more that I am not aware of.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

Just curious, which other websites have good traffic of their own. I mean the question with sincerity.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

In my first comment after yours, I was referring to eCrater and then the site I cannot remember the name of. I wish I could edit my comments. Said this before and I guess I’ll say it again lol.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

I will add that I have heard people say eCrater is finally somewhat busier than what they used to be. Their site looks great, good improvements over the last few years or so.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

II forgot to also mention Amazon and I think Ruby Lane is decent, too, with traffic..

misskeech says: March 06, 2018

Empress, Mercari & Poshmark are 2 of them. Ecrater is terrible, I think i still have items there for years without even one sale. Mercari I have probably had about 15 to 20 sales in the past 6 months or so. The site is qutie active, but the site offers coupons also every couple of months

misskeech says: March 06, 2018

at no expense to the seller, so the coupon you receive can be used to purchase ANY item on the site as long as it is $15 or $25 whatever the coupon specifies, not just from one seller.

misskeech says: March 06, 2018

Poshmark has their own following also, and they do the same thing with coupons at no expense to the seller, both of these sites have sales, Poshmark has higher end items but i have sold quite a bit there also.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

That’s cool. I never heard of Mercari. Yes, Poshmark listings are showing up on Google shopping very well and I do believe you are right that they do not have to pay for advertising. The FVF is a bit higher than the norm but still, it looks like Poshmark is doing good and they are front and center..

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

on Google shopping. I guess there is room for improvement. You bring up good points on drawing in customers.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

At the same time, sellers need to be enticed to come here. Even though it seems like there is a lot of listings on Bonanza, our inventory is still low overall. Without more listings on Bonanza, the buyers will not come in like we want them to.I think more sellers and more buyers have to go hand in..

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

I sold on eCrater or I should say tried to sell on eCrater years ago. I never sold anything but it was before the Google shopping thingy and their new look. eBay does offer eBay bucks. It’s hard to get them to add up but I do like using them if they do finally add up..

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

Sellers enticed to come here and not just because it is quick to import.

EmpressDepot says: March 06, 2018

There is www.jet.com and they do offer a discount with the first 3 purchases once the first item is purchased. The trouble with jet.com is that the seller has to do all html to set up a store there but I love shopping on Jet.com. The site also has their own products up for sale.

EmpressDepot says: March 07, 2018

I went to go list something on Poshmark this evening except that they limit my title spaces and the length of my descriptions. If I cannot say it all, then I do not feel good about selling on Poshmark. Pretty site though and with some energy.

Getting people to browse a booth is an important aspect of selling an item. Most of us are happy to get browsers. Price is another aspect. However, when people who actually want to buy a certain item, do a search they don’t type in the name of our booth, they type in the item they are looking for. Bonanza, not yet being a go-to place, draws most of our buyers through Google. If they are serious buyers and our item shows up in the search and the price is right, they will buy it. The keys are 1)search results, 2)pricing, 3)number of choices offered and our 4)customer service reputation. In my experience, buyers are not usually browsers, since they are usually brought to our item, not our booth. In our two antique outlet mall booths, browsers CAN become buyers due to the “impulse” effect which is greatly reduced in online buyers. New customers don’t just drop by our online booth.

There is a another site I sell on. Its quite active, its not ebay. Every now and then I get a email saying to take $5 off of 15 or so. They give a certain amount of time to use it. I use mine, and it gives me a better chance to sell. And the site pays for it, not the seller.

loves_birds says: March 06, 2018

I understand what you are saying misskeech, and certainly that is an incentive to buy. However, it’s like “Free Shipping”, it may look like the seller eats the shipping. but we pass it along to the buyer, and I’m certain that any site that gives coupons recovers it through the seller.

misskeech says: March 06, 2018

I have been there awile now, and the final value rate the highest is 10%. But i think they go by the understanding if the sellers make money, the site makes money. so they kick in their part. Free shipping, I have actually given free shipping, even tho everybody says its not possible, but yes it is.

I think the biggest thing to say here is….if you think you are going to get the same play here as you do thru eBay, you will be sorely disappointed. Even as bad as eBay is it is still the #1 go to site, even dealing with all the problems customers still flock there. With Bonanza you gotta work for it, advertise constantly, promote, constantly list new items etc. I have been selling online since 1998 first with eBay and them moved on to other venues. Bonanza is a great site with great sellers and customer service. I myself have around 1967 items and I add new ones daily, constantly promoting thru social media, sending out coupons, offering weekly sales etc. You gotta put in to get out, the same as with any business. I myself tend to do quite well here and utilize this as my main site, but, I do sell on other venues as well, you have to these days, but, when I do sell on the others I send a coupon pushing them to this main site. Not only helps myself but helps the fellow Bonanzians with some hopeful customers. Now, as the seller you yourself can offer discounts to first time buyers, why should Bonanza have to do that? It is your booth, you gotta do things to create your own sales. Good luck to you and hopefully your sales will pick up.

Ebay basically is an afterthought now. There are other sites out there that have a following and are much more active than ebay

maydamart says: March 06, 2018

As an e-bay-er myself, I’m sending a slip with each order letting people know I’ll be decreasing my inventory on eBay and requesting they come here where I’ll have my entire inventory listed all the time. Hoping some of the good buyers, stuck in that feeBay rut, will come on over…

misskeech says: March 06, 2018

MaydaMart, that’s great. However, I sold on ebay almost from the beginning, and I did the the same thing, I never had one person come here that I know of.
