Has anyone tried "chatting" with customers in real time?

If you click on My Bonanza>Recent Sales>View Buyers in Real time there is a little link that says “Chat with Customer” and says something like “you have never chatted with this customer before.”

Has anyone tried it? It seems creepy to me. Does it work? I know if you walked into a b&m thrift store, the shopkeep would exchange pleasantries. That would seem normal. But if I were viewing an item online and a chat box popped up and said “Welcome to my store, can I help you with anything?” I would be totally freaked out and click the X button as fast as if I had just downloaded a virus.

So has anyone ever tried it? What were the results?

I have never used that chat option, but I and many many others use the chat box in our booths quite often to chat with each other or customers…

When this site first opened…I had to walk several buyers through checkout using the chat box…

and I have answered buyer questions in the chat box…though it was easier when the switch board worked correctly and you were immediately notified if someone was in your booth

The View Buyers in real time is a link to Lexity live, which is not programmed by Bonanza. I have had dozens of Lexity chat windows open when I shop online at different venues asking if I need help. Sometimes I do have questions and have found it helpful. Although, I can see what you mean if you had never seen it before.
@ccmom, yes I agree with you about the Bonanza chat area, I think it is a real plus.

To Answer Brilliantly

Remember these tips:

  • Use links to other sources to support your opinions
  • Use examples where possible
  • Put yourself in the inquirers shoes: what extra info would be helpful?

Should I post a comment or an answer?

You can only post one answer, so make it count. Maybe your reply is more fitting as a comment instead?

Post an answer for:

  • Replies that directly and specifically answer the original question

Post a comment for:

  • "Thanks," "Me too," "I agree," or "Works for me" types of replies
  • When you would like the original poster to provide more details
  • When you have more to add to someone else's question or answer
