How to optimize photos for seo???

1. Would it do me any good to optimize the photos of my items in my Bonz booth? Such as changing the title of the pic from a sku # to a keyword or two similar to the title, and adding tags?

I notice when I go to an item in my booth as if I were a buyer and right-click to copy the photo and save, the sku # is in the item title, so I’m thinking maybe google pics up on the item title? And maybe their bots read the tags, too, but I’m not sure.

2. If so, anyone know of a free bulk photo tag editor?

(each item is different, but it would save time if I could mark my 200 candleholders as candleholders, then go in and add the color or style to the tag)

I also add my booth name to the photos. When you search google images for your brand, they will then come up.

Yes you can do that too, but it is not necessary since the link will come back to origin anyway and some places limit the number of characters allowed for photo ID. I have run into character limits on occasion. The least being 27 characters for photo name. So I try to keep it to specifics ID/keyword

Great to know about photo title character limit. 27 is not a whole lot! I think I have some revising to do.

the limit set was for another site…I am not real sure what/if there is a character limit for here

I’m not seeing this option. Can someone advise where it’s available? Thanks!

Starred, I’m talking about the file name you give your photos before you upload them to Bonanza…it seems to stick after uploading (unlike some other sites) so I was thinking maybe google picked up on the image file names as we the sellers name them.

Unfortunately changing once it is online…unless you have your photos stored somewhere like photobucket (and I am not even sure if possible there)..

The name of all the photos will probably have to be done on your computer and then re-up loaded..but then again, those who use bulk upload products might know better.

My advice is to name the photo with as close to the listing title name as possible (if not not the same title…I use a modified photo title and then tag them while on computer using Windows Photo Gallery) and do this for all new photos and then slowly go through replacing more popular items photos..

Example from one of mine

Title of listing
Star Wars Princess Leia Sandstorm Outfit VC88 Deleted Scene

The photos are [URL removed]
SW_Princess_Leia_VC88_1
SW_Princess_Leia_VC88_2
SW_Princess_Leia_VC88_3

Example for one of yours

Y38178 Set 10 Black Spiral Tealight Candleholder Wedding Centerpiece Lot

I would probably call it and if you want to keep the sku number

Tealight_candleholder_black_spiral_Y38178_1

Use underscore for spaces…

And yes naming photos helps with image search and will send the person back to your listing if they click on it…

Thanks for your input. Yes, I know it would be a pain, as I would have to go into each listing, delete the photo there, and uplaod a new photo with the optimized title. But if it will help get traffic…

TimsDiamondWillow says: July 29, 2014

Doesn’t google prefer hyphens? Idk. I always get mixed up…they want hyphens for some things and underscore for others and spaces for others.

Great to know pic title keywords help when someone searches for those terms. What about TAGS? I think they help google bots index items more, too, but I don’t know if they would see tags on pics in bonz?

TimsDiamondWillow says: July 29, 2014

I did a test item (solar lantern)=deleted old pics, uploaded pics w/tags & when I save/copy the pic from the bonz listing, the tags aren’t there. But maybe I did it wrong. Maybe just an unnecessary step, since the title is there.

I do have some of mine tagged, but I don’t think they come with the photos here. I do know that at least one place I have worked with, you can enter tags for things…
