Hello Montrose,

I use to do a lot of camping and from my experience I found that the air mattress was just too heavy to carry around. I found a good sleeping bag was lighter and more flexible to arrange around with other camping gear.

They are easy to maintain. They are heavy and thick but can still be punctured so be careful as to what the mattress is laying around and/or on.

Since it is only a twin mattress a regular air pump will do fine. I never took a spare with me only because I liked to travel light. Its a gamble as with anything when you camp out.

Coleman is a great brand name I would highly recommend to anyone. All my gear was Coleman.

I can’t answer about traveling abroad with the air mattress. I would think it would not be any more difficult then traveling abroad with golf clubs.

Enjoy your camping. Nothing better than being out in nature.

I have a nice air bed I keep for when the grand kids want to spend the night or when we go camping. It is full size, and when deflated it is heavy. They are made of a tough thick material, so naturally they will weigh more. All I can tell you about mine is it is heavy, durable, and comfortable. a hand pump will work, but I have a small electric air pump which I use. Mine is coleman, one side is like a velour while the other side is vinal.

As a former avid camper and Scouter…Yes Canada is a different Place.

It will depend on you and how much hiking with the pack you are doing. Airbeds like the one you describe are a bit heavy, two they regardless can puncture, and making repairs to them does not always work. However for a few dollars more there are Self Inflating Hikers Mattress. With a thick sleeping bag (and modern fill is very light, Good bags are under two pounds and if you are really in need of extra a few 12 oz neoprene mattress can also be added, all together less weight, and will serve you longer as they do not contain vinyl.

Hi Montrose :)

I love to camp.

Easy to maintain? Yes, very.

Do they fold in hiking bag comfortably and/or heavy in weight for twin size? Yes, you can find some that will fold smaller and better then others.

Should the basic air pump be sufficient or a spare be taken? The basic air pump should be fine, unless you are very unlucky and something happens to it.

I’m not sure about the last 2 question, but I don’t think that you will have more problems then ’’usual’’ at the airport.

Have fun camping !

I also have a queen size coleman one side is like a velour and the other vinyl. The kids love it I have an electrical pump. The Bass and Pro shop had it on sell for 19.99 that was a steal. They have all different sizes.

Best cking out camping stores…my grandson is a boy scout and camped much with sleep bags etc..and inflatables.. They make a lot of this stuff now for “backpacking” which is much lighter and smaller than the regular camping gear…normal inflatables are way to heavy and bulky to carry to far into the wilderness unless it’s the only thing you carry-
we have a few different makes.
