New google gmail rules

Can anyone explain what the impact of the new Google rules regarding gmail will be to Bonanza and therefore to sellers here?

I’d bet 5 Tokens bonanzamark is researching this one & will chime in with an answer soon…

I appreciate all the input guys. My concern was that the article particularly spoke of marketplace repercussions. I don’t know about the rest of you but we have buyers all the time who never see their bmails or respond to direct emails

Sorry for the long-winded answer below, but these inane web-wide changes have all of us in a perpetual tizzy. This ch

oops… This forced change only exacerbates the problem you refer to. While I feel time truly tells what the impact of this incessant tinkering & tweaking will be, Bonz is the one who may best know the answer to this issue. It’s a slippery slope these days trying to keep up, & not just with Google.

I think the less computer savvy buyers (the ones who need the MOST help with online purchases) will NOT look for email regarding their purchases in a “promotions” tab. Many of them won’t even LOOK on those other tabs.
I prefer to do my own sorting. I’m tired of software trying to guess what I want and trying to do it for me.

I agree tack. It happened while I was away, and a bunch of my emails suddenly popped in to my inbox when I got rid of the dumb tabs. I didn’t have time to read all that stuff while away on a biz trip! ugh. :(

Since you have the option of not seeing or using the extra tabs, I see no reason they should affect sellers here or anywhere else.

I agree with you Barb, I use gmail, but love the tabs. You can hide some, use some, or use none. No impact at all

since I have all my gmail accounts forward mail to my primary account (which is not gmail) then it really doesn’t bother me…I open gmail about once a month to move things to folders and delete all the junk…

I actually like the change, even though I hit my Gmail act rarely. Get rid of the trash, and let those we know in.

No impact. Just a reshuffling of the emails to the categories Google thinks applies.

I read that article today, and their articles often. It’s a great resource – all buyers/sellers should check in there regularly. The uncensored comments are always entertaining as well.

I agree that they should have offered it as an option instead of just implementing it and allowing the user to choose otherwise. I removed it instantly, I want all my messages in one list – and then search for what I need. What really irks me is the same default implementation of the new compose, a little box in the lower right which cannot be moved. I instantly went back to the old full screen compose. Why they (and other .com sites) make these sudden forced changes to something which was not broken under the assumption that we the user will be ecstatic over it is beyond me. Yahoo & Google mail does not work seamlessly in my Opera browser on my stone-age Blackberry 8330. Heck, if it ain’t broke… and my phone isn’t, just antiquated. Oh yeah, and I’m on XP. :|

Anyhow, I can see where some will love it or not – but I have to agree with Tackmakr, less savvy users may miss stuff they otherwise would not if they do not go back to one list. Sometimes I feel these sites have piles of dough paying techs to dream up these newfangled changes that ultimately make a lot of us scramble to keep up.

My REAL concern is not this change as much as the pending death of GCO, and what will Bonz be doing about it – like when will they add Braintree or Serve (et al), or will they create their own payment processor as I’d heard may be in the works? I loathe PayPal & their {cough} owner for forcing it upon almost everyone there (which is WHY I left 5 years ago!). Will that be the end trend here? I (thankfully) have only 50+ listings to edit, so I am waiting for the dust to settle before I add more stuff; but feel once it has settled, another sandstorm will soon roll through… :o

Like your comments Dennylew but forgive my ignorance, what is GCO?

I have been using Paypal since its inception and have had no problems. However with Google Wallet, half the time I don’t even know I have an order until the buyer notifies me weeks later. This makes me look very bad. Seriously thinking of taking Google Wallet off as a payment option.

We, too, have had Paypal for about 9 years with no trouble at all. Since then we have added others but from what I understand Google Wallet is going away anyway :-)
