Not a question but statement/update.ebay 2018 spring updates not good for sellers

Ebay is at it again….If sellers want to be top rated, you havw to offer Free Returns to all Buyers and no restocking fees. They’ve added 2 new store catagories and upped the subscriptions on existing store catagories. Want a chance at promoting your listings? Then you have to pay for Promoted Listings. Let’s not even address their guaranteed shipping dings sellers are not responsible for if the USPS screws up. Dont forget there are listing fees on each item you sell plus final value fees. Each store has a maximum free listing amount and then you pay fees for exceeding that amount. Compared to Bonanza which has no limits on free listings and no monthly charge for your booth/store. Sellers set their own policies on returns, restocking fees on Bonanza. Bonanza offers PayPal and Amazon Payments while Ebay is phasing out PayPal and will collect all payments owed to sellers which will result in payment delays to sellers while Ebay will earn a float on sellers’ money. I can go on and on…..Yes with Bonanza, you need to learn SEO and social media to promote your booth. I’ve gone a step further and setting up a Bonanza WebStore which I will tie to Instagram to promote my webstore with it’s own domain name. Yes it will take some time and work but a big benefit is that all my Bonanza booth items will not have to be relisted on my Bonanza WebStore. I tried Shopify and the format was not for my products since I sell pre-owned designer items and Shopify wanted reseller authorizations from all designers. Bonanza’s listing interface is fast and easy. I can’t understand why anyone would complain about a free booth and no listing fees and to only pay for final value fees. I don’t know anyone who works for free and doubt many would. So why complain over what amounts to pocket change commpared to the benefits Bonanza provides it’s sellers. Bonanza is such a value and I suspect there is going to be a mass exodus of Ebay sellers to Bonanza once all the updates start. Here’s the link to the Ebay Spring 2018 Updates….Read it and weep…

True true true about Ebay.

Cindy7 says: February 28, 2018

I so wish everyone would drop Ebay and start selling on Bonanza. It is such a great looking platform. But I can’t sell anything here even though I have 30% advertising checked and have approx. 1400 items in my booth. With that percentage advertising which is supposed to drive more traffic,um not yet

mrsdutch1001 says: February 28, 2018

17 yr seller on eBay- have seen the good the bad the ugly over the years & survived it all, there really is nothing in the spring update that can hurt me. I don’t have to promote or advertise…the traffic is already there. I don’t have an eBay store & I don’t have listing fees= 50 free/month.

as long as sellers stay..on ebay and compete with themselves, then they will get away with it..and other sites will never get a chance to grow…I left in 2009..things don’t move as fast, but they move eventually

Atomicdiner says: March 01, 2018

WOW, 30% advertising is a difficult pill to swallow (and with NO rise in traffic). Doesn’t bode well for us who only do the measly 9 pct just to get items in Google.

I stopped listing new items on Ebay since the first of the year, after being a seller there since 2003. They seem to punish small sellers and awarding the big box stores and sellers all the benefits. I really feel that Bonanza will become the NEW Ebay someday. Bonanza is just more seller friendly.

Absolutely Bonanza is more seller friendly. I closed my Ebay store August 2017. Bonanza just needs to do some marketing on it’s features and benefits. Also wouldn’t hurt to put up some YouTube videos on how to build a Booth or Webstore.

I hope you’re right about Bonanza becoming bigger and more popular than Ebay but they’ve been around for years now and while their platform is awesome and user friendly, they haven’t figured out how to drive traffic to your [URL removed] I have approx. 1400 in my booth but sell very [URL removed]

Agree Bonanza is a good site but here it’s all about social media if you want to be seen as Bonanza wants its sellers to do all the promotion & advertising to bring traffic to the site.

Tammies_Treasures says: February 28, 2018

I agree with everything said . The issue is I have the same exact item listed both places and I can make 70 sales a month there and make about 5 in a year here. I used to sell exclusively on Bonanza but had to go back to the bay when bonanza started with the webstores and paying for promotion.

Calhan_Mercantile says: February 28, 2018

How about we all get together as sellers and start our own Bonanza marketing program. Post something about Bonanza every day on all your social media. Just a thought.

maydamart says: March 01, 2018

@Calhan_Mercantile – wow, I was thinking the EXACT same thing!! I’ve already made little stickers for my biz cards telling people I’ll have more items available here and when I get my new batch, I’m putting my booth URL on the card. Then I’m thinking of down-grading my store to that new, 100-item…

mrsdutch1001 says: March 01, 2018

As I am in the sunset years of selling online, I will leave all those social media playgrounds for those who enjoy them…I do not do social media & have no plans to start…which is why eBay will continue as my main selling venue for the duration.

Hopefully Bonanza will see this as an opportunity to become MORE OF A DESTINATION for shoppers and build a better audience by THEM advertising to bring more BUYERS into the site. I don’t do the social media stuff and sales are not what they used to be here lately if you don’t do that it seems. Not needing to do any social media on the auction site, you (used to) get many views and sales on items but many seemed to have abandoned that site with the influx of all the bugs and changes they constantly create for both sellers and buyers there over the past few years. They truly seem to be a sinking ship and Bonanza should come to the rescue by trying to be more of a destination than it is. Then everybody would benefit and Bonanza could surpass the auction site eventually.

True especially when you choose their advertising % to supposedly drive traffic to your booth you shouldn’t have to drive traffic to your booth with your social media pages. I don’t understand why someone else hasn’t give Ebay a run for their “greedy” money.

mrsdutch1001 says: February 28, 2018

There is only one site out there that will ever be a competitor for eBay and that is Amazon. eBay used to be the go-to place for buying & selling. Now it is Amazon. Amazin is King.

Atomicdiner says: March 01, 2018

Yes, Amazon is the King of the Hill but making eBay into Amazon does not make it better. Each had their own niche and feel and this upcoming change is a rather drastic one where many small sellers will be forced to flee. Hopefully Bonanza will throw them a lifeline.

I really think this is good news for Bonanza though but truly am sorry for those who love to sell on eBay and have gotten completely comfortable with their selling platform but now are not (if others are still fine with it, then that is great also).

Even though I had quit selling on eBay for the most part, I still really did not feel too bad about eBay but hearing all of this, it just sounds like a whole lot of BIG changes going on too close together.

Will have to really give it some thought on how I feel about selling on eBay in the future.

Now is the time for Bonanza to act and really promote There still is just not enough traffic here and no one still to this day has ever heard of this site. I really wish we had more sales here. I like that we can still use and accept paypal thats a huge plus for me as i dont like to wait to get paid. This site can really do well if its promoted right and heavily.
