I asked about the design of this lighter a year or so ago, but I need more info. :)
This was a family item, so although I don’t know much about it, I know who it belonged to, which gives me a time frame, etc.
I recently found a news article from 1950, mentioning a retirement gift of a ‘silver plated table cigarette case’, and wondered if this may be it.
After seeing the news item, I tried the top of it, and lo and behold, the lighter came off! The inside would probably be deep enough to hold the old-fashioned shorter (pre-filter) cigs.
Am I right? Any suggestions / info / help? I’d like to list it, as I have far too much ‘stuff’ around here, and none of us smoke.
I’ve included pics of the outside, inside and bottom – at least I hope they work. :D
Thanks!

Can’t help, but it’s very nice. I recall you inquiring previously about it as well.

Have you tried getting the emblem (crest) identified..is that a family name crest??
You can try Jules..since she has quite a bit of information on family crests

It isn’t our family crest, so there’s no meaning there. Since it was a retirement gift, I think it’s just a design that they liked, or was available. I know someone before suggested it was sort of German looking, but there is no German connection.
Thanks Cindy :)
Thanks, shake – I never thought of the tankard / stein terminology to find something like it.
Penguin is the brand of lighter.
Does anyone have an idea if the interior hollow would be considered a cigarette case? Thanks! :)

There are a few listed on ebay under the penquin pewter tankards with lighters. Thats all I found.
