How can buyers who buy high-priced items in good faith via a photo (never having physically seen the item) return their purchase without paying large restocking fees?

Buyers dealing with sellers like Doris_Daily_Deals’ who charge a 20% restocking fee literally pay a penalty for buying high-priced items from her site. There is no such thing as free returns! It’s equivalent to false advertising!! I will never buy through Bonanza again. My returned Coach bag cost me almost $90 just to take a look!!! What an expensive lesson for me! Bonanza will never be able compete in the eCommerce marketplace with companies like Amazon who truly understand the wants and needs of their customer base. I’m beyond livid!!

I personally would not purchase from a seller who charges a 20% restocking fee, as I feel it is excessive, the buyer paying return postage is enough. when I see that a seller has such policies or similar, I think twice before purchasing from them & usually don’t

Jewelsbelegance says: October 06, 2016

but buyers do need to read shop & return policies before making a purchase. but it is wrong to assume all Bonanza sellers are like that. I’ve had wonderful experiences on here with exceptional sellers with great customer service. don’t judge all based on one.

To clear things up this buyer that purchased a Coach handbag on my Bonanza Booth. I was saddened this was posted on the forum. when she purchase the Coach Xbody. She was uncertain about the color.it was sold out. I still was able to find the Xbody, and she never worked with to resolve the issue.

All buyers should consider the fact that if they purchase an item that is described as NEW (whether in a sealed package or not), then sometimes the returned item doesn’t look “new” anymore or it is perceived as used if it is no longer packaged. Sellers lose money if a new item can no longer be sold as new. IMO, that is the purpose of restocking fees. Small sellers can’t afford to let buyers try on clothes for sizing, check out the color of an item or simply decide that they don’t like the item and expect to return it for full credit. I would imagine that it is entirely possible that a returned Coach bag could decrease in value IF the bag was damaged/soiled/etc. or if the tags had been discarded. A bag being re-sold under those kind of conditions could conceivably be reduced in value more than the 20% that the seller charges for restocking it.

Of course, I agree with everybody who says that the buyer needs to make an informed decision prior to purchasing the item. Perhaps the seller could consider stating that a restocking fee UP TO 20% may apply. Communication between sellers and buyers (prior to either taking action) is the key to successful transactions.

That restocking/return policy is exactly as transferred on ebay to Bonanza. Millions of shoppers on ebay see the exact same thing. I don’t fault the seller. It’s not show and tell. Since there was nothing wrong with the item I think it’s fair. Much time is spent going thru the steps for a seller to recover their time and fees charged on the sale. Some are never recovered.

If she charges a 20% restocking fee, and you feel it is unfair, why did you purchase from her? Bonanza consists of individuals sellers who make their own return policies, it is up to the buyer to check out these policies. I dont quite understand how you can blame Bonanza the site when you are partly responsible for purchasing something from someone who’s return policy you do not agree with & knowing there could possibly have been a return. Sorry, i am not trying to be rude, just realistic.

I agree with you. It was my costly oversight & lesson learned! I was excited about finding a handbag that was very difficult to locate and only viewed her cover page; ignoring the fine print. Buyer Beware! Shop smart; I didn’t!!

Jewelsbelegance says: October 06, 2016

I think the point Jewelry Styles made at the beginning of the comment is valid, being that each individual seller sets their own policies & every shop & seller is different. It is the flawed policy of that seller & shop, but not the fault of the host site.

Jewelsbelegance says: October 06, 2016

I would argue that it is unfair to other sellers on here for people to have a negative experience with one seller & then write off an entire venue & all sellers on it. I’ve had bad experiences on ebay but I don’t blame the site or assume all their sellers will be problematic & difficult.

Jewelsbelegance says: October 06, 2016

judge each person & business based on their individual merit (or lack of) & by experience with them, please don’t judge an entire group or venue of people based on one person who happens to sell here

Marshar30, we have all made mistakes in purchasing, i know i have. But as Jewelsbelegance, do not judge the the site as a whole, because of one seller. I have been here a long time, and there are many wonderful sellers on Bonz. Its different that it allows sellers more freedom with their terms.

In my opinion, you have grounds for filing a dispute with your payment processor. The restocking fee was hidden on the seller’s policy page, while the rest of her return policy was included in the item description. This seems deceptive to me. Try filing a dispute with PayPal or your credit card or Amazon, whoever you paid through. For $90, I sure would.

I have a restocking fee. It is clearly stated that I may charge on a restocking fee,.
I never used to have one, but I got so many returns on another selling site, that I was losing money right & left. The items were never damaged or defective just that the buyer changed their mind after purchasing item They didn’t like it or found it cheaper somewhere else.
My wholesalers charge me a restocking fee if I want to return an item that id not defective. As they have to pay an employee to open box, unpack it,check it for damage, etc. and then put it back in stock on the shelf.
We as sellers have to do the exact same thing. I don’t like working for free.

ToysAndTreasures [URL removed] “The seller’s “Return Policy” is included in the item description, but does NOT mention a restocking fee. Only if you click through to the seller’s policy page is the fee mentioned. This is misleading at best.”

I agree with You. Since this seller’s ‘Return Policy’ is already included in the item’s description (btw, in smaller letters than the text above and below it!) and it doesn’t state to see more details on some other page (in fact, under ‘Payment options’, there is a ‘Return Policy’ line [URL removed] “See booth/item description for details”) – in this particular case the buyer, who visited the listing and saw this [URL removed]

![URL removed]

should not be asked to pay the restocking fee.

One more dissonance (on the same listing page, see the above photo):
Payment options – "Credit or debit cards, Amazon Payments, Paypal"
and in the item’s description – PayPal only please.
Why to have such a representation?

Buyer [URL removed] “I will never buy through Bonanza again.”
It’s a pity that one misleading listing has caused this Buyer to loose money and made Her transfer this frustration on B. marketplace with so many other sellers, who are very accurate in their items’ descriptions.

To avoid such situations in the future (for buyers and sellers protection), Bonanza could set this [URL removed]
1) if a return policy is added also to descriptions, then it bounds seller and customer (and buyers don’t need to check any extra pages – it’s seller’s duty to have it clear and complete).

In all fairness to the seller in question, the return policy was plainly stated. Whether I or anyone else would buy from someone who has that kind of return policy is immaterial, as the seller assumes people will. With 100% feedback apparently most do. I do not know the seller, but it is not my place to denigrate another sellers return policy. I know from years of selling here and on the dark side, achieving and maintaining a 100% selling record, isn’t a walk in the park. Adrenalin driven shoppers aside, the seller followed the policy she/he had set down. Isn’t that what is expected of a seller on any venue? M~

I have to disagree that the return policy was plainly stated. The seller’s “Return Policy” is included in the item description, but does NOT mention a restocking fee. Only if you click through to the seller’s policy page is the fee mentioned. This is misleading at best.

loves_birds says: October 07, 2016

Then why even have a policy page if it is so difficult to “click through to”.
