Would someone please explain the catalog to me?

What’s the difference between searching the catalog and searching the site? Don’t they contain the same products. I obviously don’t understand this at all.

Thanks.

This is an official Bonanza response.

Here is a link to our blog that announces the arrival of our product catalog (aka “kaleidoguide”) [URL removed]

In the comment section you will see similar concerns that are echoed in this post, that were addressed by Bill. For example, when it was commented that the product catalog was not delivering consistent results, Bill [URL removed]

Yeah, we’re still working on teaching the catalog to disambiguate between multiple brands when it finds two possible matches. Your anecdote does give me a good idea on how to improve the situation though…stay tuned, I suspect we’ll have your items cataloged correctly within the next couple days.

It sounds like we still have some polishing to do on this. Feel free to send such reports to support@bonanza.com so we can address.

When Bill was asked how users will find the product catalog he [URL removed]

We’re still progressively introducing it, and linking from other places is not a phase we’ve arrived at yet. I reckon we’ll probably get there within the next two weeks.

Much more information can be found on the blog linked above.

I think I may have figured it out. Ebay has something similar in their search. When you put in an item their search brings up all the products that most closely match the keywords you typed in. Then after that you see a list of other things that maybe have some of those keywords but not all.

I think that MAY be the concept with the catalog here. But what I see is that it shows catalog items FIRST which MAY match all or only some of your keywords, in what they call kaleidoguide as it kind of swirls around the page. Now if you look below the catalog search you actually do get to see the items that more closely match your keywords. And on my screen you don’t get to see those items unless you actually hit scroll to go down further. I would have to guess that a lot of people would not understand to do that. They would think hey I typed in a search for something, this is what they have(in the catalog or kaleidoguide )and that’s it. At least this is how I see it. Maybe if the catalog and search where more integrated like the way it is on Ebay it wouldn’t be as confusing, at least to me. Now this is the way I see it, I may not be correct, maybe management can chime?

The catalog (kaleidoguide) may be seen directly, [URL removed]

I’m not aware of any direct links to it otherwise – but maybe there are some, somewhere on Bonz.

It is a work in progress, with additions being made on an on-going basis. For more, see [URL removed]

Whether it “makes sense” sort of depends on your expectations or assumptions. The concept is reasonable; how well it is actually executed will be known as time goes by. One issue I think I see is the product reviews, provided by the buyers. There are many reviews which are really more like feedback, such as “love the item,” “as described,” fast shipping," etc. That’s handy info, but falls short of a review.

Hope that helps.

It makes no sense. The site has many more items than in the catalog. Buyers are going to search the catalog and think that those are the only items available on the site which is not a true representative of the items on Bonanza. Many are in the wrong category. Just don’t get it. As the above post says ebay has a catalog, I have never noticed it! Here on Bonanza it’s the first thing on the page. Many buyers won’t scroll down and know there is another search option. A complete distraction and adds nothing to the buying experience.
It also has a “see all matching products” which would give the impression, that if something wasn’t there than it’s not on the site.

I agree with you. A buyer will not realize they need to scroll down to find the items they searched for in the first place , thus may leave the site. I have done this twice myself when trying to purchase here.

I typed in Oil Lamp in that stupid thing…not one of mine shows
