Descripción del Artículo
This is a 51 piece set of Coin Silver by William Marsh circa 1859. Each piece is individually wrapped as they appear to have been professionally cleaned. Each piece is Monogrammed with a "B" as is the set recently sold (see link provided) This set is from the same set presented to the head of the Old Astor House, (Benjamin) Parker Jones, New York on June 14, 1859, the date of his wedding. Benjamin Parker Jones (1829-1885) was the Steward of Astor House from 1855 until his death in 1885. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln visited Astor House, spoke to an audience of 40,000 people from the front of the hotel and likely was served dinner using this set of fine silver!! For Reference please see this set recently sold: https://www.1stdibs.com/en-gb/furniture/dining-entertaining/sheffield-silverplate/coin-silver-william-marsh-flatware-set-service-57-pieces-original-chest/id-f_3337212/ According to the Seller of that set, (Phil Dreis author of Warman's Silver) the knives are Sterling and bear hallmarks (a bit worn please see photos) The set contains: 13 teaspoons 6" 9 Serving Spoons 8 1/2" 12 Forks 7 3/4" 12 Knives Flat Handle Sterling 7 3/4" 1 Sugar Shell Spoon 6 7/8" 2 Mustard Ladles 5 1/4" 2 Salt Spoons Master 3 5/8" This set weighs 2448 grams (less the plastic packaging, I have not opened any of these pieces, I will leave that to the buyer) The 57 piece set was sold for $7,995 (please see link provided above) Benjamin Parker Jones was the Head Steward of Astor House, the most opulent hotel in New York that existed between 1836 and 1913. Mr. Jones was good friends with many dignitaries including Daniel Webster, Franklin Pierce and Abraham Lincoln. He was a frequent guest in the White House and frequently entertained his friends at Astor House as well.
