This is the original serviceable two-piece version. If you look in the online forums someone sells an improved spring for these. A fresh OFV spring gives a noticeable boost in engine performance. Since our injection pumps are aging, adding a stiffer spring gives even more dramatic results by boosting injection pump element fill rates to original specs. This original two-piece version is no longer being made. Mercedes now just offers the sealed one-piece design which are not serviceable and cannot be upgraded. This original two-piece design allows you to open the valve to service it and modify the spring. Another trick for better pressure and faster injection pump element fill rates is to simply add a ballpoint pen spring coiled into the existing spring. It's very effective and much cheaper than buying a custom spring.
