Camp Abena, Belgrade Lakes, Maine. One is dated May 10, 1937 and the other May 17, 1937. Also included is an official application. Condition: Both are in excellent condition. Comments: Camp Abena was a charming summer camp for girls located in the picturesque Belgrade Lakes region of Maine. The camp was partly staffed by summering Middlebury College professors. It was situated at Hersoms Point on Great Pond, which is now known as Great Lake. The camp provided a serene and natural environment for young girls to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and build lasting friendships. The camps establishment dates back to the early 20th century. In March 1905, the Waterville Sentinel announced the opening of Hersoms Point Camp, which would cater to girls during the summer season. Over the years, it evolved into Camp Abena, attracting campers and staff alike. It offered a variety of activities, including canoeing, swimming, hiking, and arts and crafts. The girls enjoyed the rustic charm of the camp, with its bungalow-style accommodations and beautiful views. Camp Abena became a cherished part of the Belgrade Lakes community, providing generations of girls with memorable summers. Although Camp Abena is no longer in operation, its legacy lives on through memories, stories, and the natural beauty of the Belgrade Lakes.
