Descripción del Artículo
THIS IS THE HOUR
by Lion Feuchtwanger.
Translated from German to English by H.T. Lowe-Porter Frances Fawcett.
New York: The Viking Press, 1951.
First edition in English, first printing.
"Published in May 1951" statement to the copyright page, 1951 printed to the title page, $3.95 to the jacket's flap.
An historical and biographical novel about the artist Francisco Goya, and the 1790s in Spain's turbulent Napoleonic era.
*Please note: This book is the more elusive, quality first edition with a price on the jacket-- and NOT the common Book Club edition that has no price and with a book club-signifying impression to its lower rear cover inside corner.
Light age-toning to the inner hinge areas as usual, a trace of foxing to the outer page edges, a touch of rubbing to the front cover's black panel, else tight, firm, square and near fine in deep-red linen over bright yellow linen boards with amber embossed decorative borders and initials to a black panel to the front cover and with amber titles to a black panel with amber and black decorations and borders to spine, upper page edges yellow; in an about near fine dust jacket with front panel art by Alan Haemer, with very shallow chipping to the shelf-edges and flap folds; original printed $3.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Octavo; 516 pages.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear, removable, protective sleeve after photographing for this entry.
