UNCERTAIN OF DATE BUT THE HERALDIC SHIELD WAS USED SINCE THE 1600s There were several grants of arms to the East India Company, during its long and varied life. This, the most commonly represented coat of arms of the EIC, and the one which is used on this PLATE, is the second one the company was granted, which was current from 1698 onwards. [#187]
