Descripción del Artículo
Of some age but I am not sure exactly how much. Sticker on bottom of each piece reads "Japan" but the man has pigtails and they look like Chinese people to me. They could be court figures, possibly musicians or even acrobats, or they could just be a couple in some traditional garb. The woman is in a little better shape overall than the man, who lost a hand somewhere in time. To the woman, there is light wear to the tip of her nose, the gold highlight in her hair and also right foot. The red cape top on the man's jacket has some spots rubbed off and he is missing a hand, he also has overall mild wear. It was difficult to get good photos especially of the man.
They have a cute look to them, although the detail and workmanship is only basic. They are obviously export product, probably brought here during one of the periodic style trends towards Oriental fashion. Being a Japanese rendition of a Chinese motif, I expect they might be from the late 1940's or no later than early 1950's. Whatever the age I haven't seen another set just like them.
