Horror Island
(1941 - B W - 70 min)
Released March 1941, Public Domain March 1969
Director: George Waggner
Starring: Dick Foran, Leo Carrillo, Peggy Moran
Synopsis: A down-on-his luck businessman organizes an excursion to Sir Henry Morgan's Island for a treasure hunt only to encounter a mysterious phantom and murder. Thought to be the cheapest made of all the Universal Pictures releases in the 1940s, Horror Island is a fun comedy chiller full of creaky doors, moving floors with nice atmospherics. As things start to go bump in the night, the unsuspecting treasure hunters are being picked off one by one very much in the vein of Ten Little Indians.
Trivia: The Carfax Abbey stone staircase seen was originally used in Dracula (1931). Many of the remaining sets were recycled from Tower of London (1939).
Bonus Features: Original Trailer, Trailer Extras
Case and Artwork.
