A gorgeously illustrated Holy Bible with many color pictures in Extra Large Size at approximately 12.75? x 11" x 5.5" - MASSIVE. This Bible is complete with the Old and New Testaments, copious marginal references, maps, chronological tables, and many important and valuable aids to the study of the holy scriptures. Written to increase the interest in and simplify the word of god. It is embellished with over 2000 incredible engravings, many in color. The Bible is absolutely beautifully illustrated with many illustrations in color and many full page engravings, many by Gustave Dore. Tissue papers in place. It is a Self-Pronouncing Pictorial Family Bible. This item features a heavy molded leather cover with intricate gilt ornamentation and illustration, raised bands to the spine and two working metal latches (one was repaired - see picture). It appears that the title and publisher page is missing, but otherwise the bible is complete. Bible is in good condition. Beautifully bound with deep embossed leather covers and gilt illustrations. Inside pages are clean and tight. Profusely illustrated throughout, many pictures are in color. It is in good condition but showing some expected cover wear. The binding is secure, age wear to boards and spine, no loose pages. Hinge may have been repaired. Contents very good with overall clean pages showing only slight browning and an occasional wrinkle. The family records pages have entries and there are a few vintage Tin-Type pictures. A very thick and gorgeously illustrated Bible containing The Old and New Testaments, and numerous full page Gustave Dore engravings, many chromolithographs (color engravings) and color maps. Working original closing clasps (one was repaird). This large, loaded and well preserved Family Bible has intricate gold-embedded decorated covers (depicting scenes of the Bible) and spine, all with the gold-letter text "Holy Bible", "Pronouncing Parallel Bible" and "Bible Dictionary And Cities Of The Bible - 2000 illustrations". Additionally there are extensive other resources included, like: Apocrypha; Psalms; color maps; Complete History of All Books of the Bible, beautifully illustrated; many marginal references and readings; Cities and Towns of the Bible; Manners and Customs of the Ancients; the Tabernacles and Solomon's Temple; Scenes in the Life of Christ; Bible Text events illustrated, and much more. The Family Bible might have been the only book purchased for an American home and so, publishers crammed them with additions to make their volume more desirable and this Bible is a very nice copy.
