Descripción del Artículo
This is a bit of a mystery lot of coin silver here!
We?ve identified the family to be either Richard Ferris or Benjamin Ferris; the grandson and son of Ziba Ferris from Philadelphia. The R or B is tough to distinguish because the mark has worn on the underside so much. Evidence for it being Benjamin Ferris is that he was based in New York (where these were found on Long Island) and the engraving is more in his style (1780-1864). Evidence to be Richard Ferris is that the shell style was more proper for his time frame (~1815-1885) but he was based out of Philadelphia.
Either way, it?s a truly unique set of pieces. These salt spoons are truly treasures! They are near identical which is remarkable they?ve stayed together for their nearly 200 years on this earth.
See all photos for details; they?re approximate 3.5 inches and 5.5 grams each.
