In December 2022 Russia began issuing 5-ruble notes again after a 25 year hiatus. The new notes are like the discontinued notes of 1997 P267 (B816a), but with a new lacquer coating, and distinctive two-letter prefixes beginning with ?. It is assumed a shortage of raw metal and the need for a large increase in money in circulation are the underlying cause. Front: Bank seal; Millennium of Russia monument in Novgorod Kremlin; Saint Sophia Cathedral in Novgorod. Back: Dvortsovaya (Palace Tower), Spasskaya (Saviour?s Tower), and Knyazhaya (Princess Tower) on the Novgorod Kremlin (Detinets) wall with Volkhov River in background. 1-mm wide solid security thread with printed ??? 5. Watermark: Horizontal 5 (left); Saint Sophia Cathedral (right). Printer: Goznak, Russia See my other notes from this country NEVER A RESERVE !!
