Descripción del Artículo
Offered here is this 1928 hard cover first edition of The Whisper Of A Name, Marie Le Franc, translated by George Hilda Shively. The book was published by the Bobbs-Merrill Company. The book has a book plate on the inside front cover, as well as a synopsis glued onto the next page just inside the front cover. It was apparently originally a rental from The May Company. The book is worn at the corners and edges, and has some staining and fading on the cover, which is also beginning to tear loose from the binding. The binding is holding well, however, and all 244 pages are intact and in good condition, although they are beginning to yellow with age. This is a genuinely nice first edition book that would be a nice addition to any antique book collection…
The strange and haunting love story of the Breton Landes, a region of moor and slat marshes, won for its author the important Femina prize and has run through thirty-eight editions in France under the title Grand-Louis L’Innocent.
It concerns only two characters, Eve, a young and cultivated woman who has sought on the lonely moor refuge from an old heartbreak, and Grand-Louis, magnificent of body, but with memory eclipsed and mind turned childish as the result of a wound received during the war. How these two, shut off from the world, and akin only in their desolation, find companionship that by slow. Inevitable degrees moves on to a spiritual and passional consummation makes a drama as profound as it is poignant…
