CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS AND HIS MONUMENT, COLUMBIA Compiled by J.M. Dickey Rand, McNally Co., 1892 First Edition Condition: Very Good- in VG+ dust wrapper The title page describes this book as "A Concordance of Choice Tributes to the Great Genoese, His Grand Discovery, and His Greatness of Mind and Purpose." It is "Adorned with the Sculptures, Scenes, and Portraits of the Old World and the New" (many full-page photos, illustrations and maps). The book has tears on or near the foot of the spine and some shelf wear; the upper cover corners are somewhat bent. Some pages have jagged pieces of the outer margin missing and some margin tears as a result of careless separation of pages (no text or illustrations affected). There is also a small tear/crease at the top of the ffep and a couple of other small end paper defects. The binding is firm, and the pages are only lightly yellowed. The unusual red cloth-like jacket has some edgewear(mainly at the spine head and lower back cover). The flap corners appear clipped, but I believe this is the original state. A solid book, and intact jackets on 1890s books are extremely scarce.
