Donau (KRUGER) 31 9819 208228 Sent by "Michael Faltermeier" from Neutraubling - DOK U 13 West Germany Handwritten information and message in blue ink, refers to W6HRA as :"one really old timer" (W6HRA was 69 yrs old in '82 and had been a Ham radio operator for over 50 of those years). Handwritten date March 15, 1982 and DX Date Stamped July 10, 1982 CONDITION: Photo is bright, clear and not faded. Along the bottom edge of the photo are printed the Amateur Radio call letters " DJ4QG" in red ink, ( it appears also that a small smudge of red ink is also in the upper left edge of the photo, which actually looks like a partial thumb print(?). Address side blank, not postage stamp or cancel mark, no discoloration or smudges. Handwritten message is clear and readable. Edges and corners are clean and good condition. FYI Information: Founded by the Romans in 179 AD as Casta Regina (meaning Fortress by the River Regen), Regensburg is one of Germany's oldest towns. It was relatively spared from Allied bombings during World War II. Today, many flock to see the wonderfully intact old city and its many medieval structures. Walhalla is considered the masterpiece of all the artistic creations of the Bavarian King Ludwig I (1825 - 1848). Built between 1830 (ground breaking ceremony) and 1842 (opening ceremony) in deliberate proximity to the former "free city" of Regensburg with its Gothic cathedral. The interior features various marble reliefs worth seeing, and the outside area is very impressive, with about 358 stairs to reach the temple with its huge entrance. From there you have a magnificent view over the Danube with its wide floodplain.
