Descripción del Artículo
This is for a Robert Wood canvas art piece in excellent condition. The canvas itself is large at 36" x 24" with overall dimensions of 44"x32". Though I have never seen a copy of this it is believed to be a copy and not an original painting.
In any case this was definitely under corporate ownership by the Texas restaurant chain Wyatt Cafeterias, Inc. This was recently acquired here in San Antonio where Wood lived from 1923 to 1940 creating his plein air paintings of bluebonnets and becoming a renowned Texas artist. In just a few short years by the time Wood painted "Pacific Coast" in California in 1945 he had established himself as one of the greatest landscape painters in the United States.
The back shows the corporate ownership information including what looks like their inventory reference numbers, the restaurant chain number, the painting's title, the artist, and the lighting instructions. Four screw holes for the lighting fixture can be seen at the top center. The paper on the back also shows a superficial water stain with absolutely no affect on the frame or on the canvas farther below it.
Based on the company history and the store number this hung for decades at 8511 Tesoro Drive. Wyatt's was later bought out by Luby's Cafeterias. I have since been contacted by someone who remembers this painting. They said it hung in the dining room high up on the wall.
Regarding cafeterias, from the 1940's to late 1990's it was a multi-million dollar business. They built them as fast as they could. The only thing hotter was fast food.
