Descripción del Artículo
Hemingway, Ernest, THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA, New York: Charles Scribner?s Sons, 1952. First edition, first printing, light blue cloth hardcover with blind-stamped facsimile Hemingway signature to lower front board, 8vo (8x5.5?), fine/very good, 140pp. Dust jacket is lightly chipped at head and tail of spine with a light line of age-toning around the edges, very light age-toning to spine of book and the rear hinge area, else fine.
A splendid example of a much sought after title - many believe this was Hemingway?s magnum opus. Written during his later years, it earned him immense acclaim, and contributed to his Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. The story centers on Santiago, an aging Cuban fisherman, and his relentless struggle with a giant marlin in the Gulf Stream. Santiago's battle with the marlin becomes a powerful narrative about endurance, dignity, and man's relationship with nature. This work solidified Hemingway's reputation as a master storyteller and remains a cornerstone in modern American literature.
A very distinctive book indeed, and yet another marvelous sector of Captured Tyme!
