Descripción del Artículo
Twain, Mark,
MARK TWAIN?S (BURLESQUE) AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND FIRST ROMANCE. New York: Sheldon
Company, 1871. 1st ed. 2nd
state (with Ball, Black and Co. ad on copyright page), green cloth hardcover w/gilt
titling to front board, and blind stamped frame around the edges of both the
front and rear boards,
small 8vo
(7.375x5?), Good+/n.a., 47pp. Head and tail of spine chipped, 1/4" chip in center of spine, corners bumped
and rubbed, mild general age-toning and light soiling throughout.
As indicated
in the title there are two works in one ? neither actually about Mark Twain?s
life, but rather a humorous approach to his family ancestry, and the social
happenings of the day.
This was Twain?s third book, and apparently
his least favorite. Two years after printing it he bought the printing plates
and destroyed them. Known for its quirkiness, it apparently taught Twain a
lesson that inspired some of his most famous works in future years. Quite the distinctive book - and yet another
fine example, of Captured Tyme.
