ROYAL COPENHAGEN 1912 Christmas Plate Elderly Couple with Small Christmas Tree is the subject of the 1912 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate. It features an elderly man and woman, holding hands and gazing at the small Christmas Tree sitting on a table near them. The tree is decorated with lighted candles (in the Danish Tradition) and topped with the Christmas Star. Designed by Christian Thomsen. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze, approximate diameter just over 7 inches (18 cm). The inscription includes the date 1912 and the word JULEN -- the Danish word for CHRISTMAS (pronounced similar to the English work YULE). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three wavy line trademark of Royal Copenhagen. EXCELLENT CONDITION (no chips, cracks, repairs or crazing) and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through the trademark). There is a small glaze miss which shows as a small light spot under the man’s beard, part of the original manufacturing and passed as First Quality. See close-up photo.
