U.S. ARMY, M1878 HAVERSACK, L COMPANY, 52nd INFANTRY, SOLDIERS NUMBER 38 Constructed entirely of drab duck and webbing, this haversack served the U.S. Army through the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and the Indian Wars. The front flap measures approx. 12? x 13?. The edges of the flap are bound with drab webbing approx. 1/2? in width. There is a strap sewn to the underside of the flap which measures approx. ? x 8? with two grommet holes which connect to a brass frame buckle on the bottom of the gusset. The body measures approx. 8-1/2? x 11? and is constructed with an inside pocket sewn to the back seam and a meat-can pocket sewn to the front. The meat can pocket is closed at its upper end with an 11/16? diameter button. There are two brass D-rings which are held by webbing chapes to the upper rear corners of the haversack. The inside of the top flap is stenciled ?COLUMBIA ARESENAL? The outside of the top flap is well marked ?L, CROSSED RIFLES, U.S. 38? This will be shipped via United Parcel Service (UPS w/tracking.
