Vintage original 27.5 x 39.5 in. Swedish poster from the 1930's thriller drama/romance, MARIE GALANTE, released in 1934 by the Fox Film Corporation and directed by Henry King. Marie Galante (Ketti Gallian) is kidnapped and taken aboard ship, then thrown off at Yucatan. She winds-up singing in a café in the Panama Canal zone. There she gets involved in a plot to destroy the canal and runs into American intelligence officer, Dr. Crawbett (Spencer Tracy). This poster was designed by the very prolific Swedish movie poster artist Eric Rohman and features his signature in the top of the poster near the right border. The beautiful stone lithograph artwork features a very large headshot of the film's female star, French-born actress Ketti Gallian, surrounded by black-and-white headshots of four of the male characters including Spencer Tracy in the top left corner. The Fox Film Corporation company logo is depicted in the lower left corner. Folded as originally issued, this vintage original Swedish poster is unrestored and in very good+ condition with an extra horizontal foldline across the top and bottom of the poster; random separation and small tears on most of the foldlines (with some of the horizontal foldlines having completely split to where they meet the center vertical foldline); a clean area of paper loss on center center of the top border with a small amount of paper loss beneath it in the top of the image area with a 2 in. long area of paper loss along the center vertical foldline in the black background area beneath the text at the top that goes into the hair of the man to the right of Tracy; and a 2.25 in. area of paper loss at the bottom of the vertical foldline that meets with a chip/small area of paper loss on the center of the bottom border. There are no pinholes or stains and no evidence of any fading. This poster would only require very minimal restoration if it were to be linen-backed.
