Descripción del Artículo
Vintage original 8x10 in. U.S. single-weight glossy publicity photograph from the 1990's direct-to-video horror film, THE INBOUND VAMPIRE, released in 1997 by Alpha New Cinema and directed by Karl Petry. A World War I U.S. soldier is cursed by a vampire and when he returns home to his hometown of Newark, New Jersey, he tries to stay alive by his daily consummation for blood. Nearly 80 years later, a dogged police detective, seeking material to write a book about vampires, teams-up with a local journalist. They try to find this mysterious person whom the press has dubbed 'the Ironbound Vampire' due to his M.O. of leaving murder victims dry of blood.
The image features an interior medium publicity shot of the film's star, Dolores Fuller (as Theresa Powell), as she looks at fellow cast member Richard Matyskiel (who portrays Tom Lane) while Ms. Fuller's husband, Philip Chamberlin, talks to the handsome long-haired actor. Minor credits from the film are depicted within the bottom border. This photograph has been inscribed in silver Sharpie by Dolores Fuller to collector Eric Caidin, the long-time owner of Hollywood Book and Poster Company ("HBP") on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California as follows: "To our dear friends - at Hollywood Book and Poster Co.! - Dolores Fuller." Philip Chamberlin has signed his name as well to the right of Ms. Fuller's signature.Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, this photograph is in very fine+ condition with no visible flaws.
Provenance: The Eric Caidin Collection. Eric was the son of the famed movie poster collector/Beverly Hills attorney Stanley Caidin, whose world-class collection was sold by Sotheby's in the mid-1990's. In addition to being a movie lover, Eric's passion was horror and slasher films and professional wrestling. Due to his ownership of his store, he was able to meet and befriend many Hollywood celebrities (including those behind as well as in front of the camera) as well as professional wrestlers and musicians. Sadly, Eric died in May of 2015. His personal collection as well as the contents of his store were subsequently sold at auction by Profiles in History (Calabasas, California) at their Hollywood Auction 83 held on June 29 - July 1, 2016. The section related to his estate is in the accompanying auction catalog was featured on pages 43 - 57. Lot #104 ("Collection of 250+ original vintage and contemporary film and television ephemera including many signed pieces c.1940's - 2010") was purchased by our consignor of this item who has subsequently given it to us to sell on their behalf.
Dolores Agnes Fuller (née Eble;
March 10, 1923 – May 9, 2011) was an American actress and songwriter best known
as the one-time girlfriend of the low-budget film director Ed Wood. She
played the protagonist's girlfriend in Glen
or Glenda, co-starred in Wood's Jail
Bait, and had a minor role in his Bride
of the Monster. Later, Elvis Presley recorded a number of her
songs written for his films. Her first screen appearance was at the age of 10
when she appeared briefly in Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night. According to Fuller, the female lead in Bride of the Monster was written
for her but Wood gave it to Loretta King instead.
In
August 1954, Fuller was cast in Wood's The
Vampire's Tomb, intended to star Bela Lugosi. Frank Yaconelli was
named as her co-star and 'comic killer'. The film was never made. She ended-up
making an appearance in Bride of the
Monster (1956), also with Lugosi. Fuller hosted a benefit for
Lugosi which preceded the showing of Bride
of the Atom (early working title of Bride of the Monster) on May 11, 1955. A cocktail party was held at
the Gardens Restaurant at 4311 Magnolia Avenue in Burbank, California.
Vampira (Maila Nurmi) attended and was escorted by Paul Marco. A single
screening of the film was presented at the Hollywood Paramount.
According to Fuller,
as quoted in the Wood biography Nightmare
of Ecstasy (1992), she first met Ed Wood when she attended a casting
call with a friend for a movie he was supposed to direct called Behind Locked Doors; it has also been
stated that they met in a restaurant. She became his girlfriend shortly
thereafter and began acting in his films. Her movie career included a bit part
in It Happened One Night (1934)
and roles in Outlaw Women (1952), Glen or Glenda (1953), Body Beautiful (1953), The Blue Gardenia (1953), Count the Hours (1953), Mesa of Lost Women (1953), College Capers (1954), Jail Bait (1954), The Raid (1954), This Is My Love (1954), The Opposite Sex (1956), The Ironbound Vampire (1997) and Dimensions in Fear (1998).
The following is Eric Caidin's biography on IMDb: "Eric Caidin was a noted and much beloved member of the Hollywood film fan community. He grew up in Beverly Hills and in 1977 opened the memorabilia store Hollywood Book and Poster Company, which sold everything from film stills and posters to books and magazines to DVDs and t-shirts. In 2001 it was named the best movie poster store by "The Los Angeles New Times." Caidin presented the monthly Grindhouse Film Festival at the New Beverly Cinema along with fellow exploitation feature enthusiast Brian Quinn. He had small roles in several movies and appeared as himself in a few documentaries. Eric and Johnny Legend were featured on the fun, lively, and informative Something Weird DVD commentaries for the documentaries "Mondo Mod," "Mondo Freudo," "Mondo Bizzaro" and "The Hippie Revolt." Caidin often attended various pro wrestling events and could be frequently seen at film conventions held all over the United States. In 2015, he died at age 62 from an aneurysm shortly after attending a Palm Springs film noir festival."
