Descripción del Artículo
Vintage 7x8 in. US single-weight glossy signed photograph from the classic 1920's silent film action/adventure drama/romance, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, released in 1921 by United Artists and directed by Fred Niblo. Reprinted in the 1960's from a book, the image depicts Queen Anne (Mary MacLaren) and her loyal subject, D'Artagnan (Douglas Fairbanks). This photograph was inscribed by Mary MacLaren in blue ballpoint pen to silent film historian, author, and collector, Robert S. Birchard, thusly:To Bob - from the "Queen" Mary MacLaren Aug 30/68.
It is in fine condition with a 4 in. horizontal crease just beneath Miss MacLaren's signed name; a 2 in. diagonal crease on the bottom left corner; two small creases in the top of the left border; and a few scattered creases in the image area simply from handling over time. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
Mary MacLaren (born Mary Ida MacDonald, also credited Mary McLaren; January 19, 1900 – November 9, 1985) was an American film actress in both the silent and sound eras. She was the younger sister of actresses Miriam and Katherine MacDonald and appeared in over 170 films between 1916 and 1949. MacLaren was of the blond beauty type, having masses of blond hair and blue eyes. She was 5'3" and weighed 123 pounds. She began her stage career in the Winter Garden in New York City with Al Jolson in The Passing Show of 1914 and Dancing Around. Her screen career as Mary MacLaren began in 1916 with Shoes, directed by Lois Weber. She played for the Universal Film Manufacturing Company in Idle Wives, The Model's Confession, The Petal on the Current, The Unpainted Woman, Bonnie Bonnie Lassie, Rouge and Riches and many others. MacLaren was exceedingly athletic and spent much of her time in the surf near her California house. She was also an expert tennis player and ardent enthusiast.
