The Black Mission Fig AKA the Franciscan Fig is a very popular variety of the edible fig. The Black Mission Fig is a large fig with purplish black skin, strawberry flesh and is the taste standard for figs. Black Mission Fig is a high quality fig variety and the most productive variety producing both an early crop, and heavy main or late crop. The skin of the fruit often cracks when it is ripe. Black Mission Figs are best for eating fresh out of hand or drying. The Franciscan friars brought the Black Mission fig tree to the United States in 1768 when the Franciscan missionaries first planted it in San Diego. It became the main commercial variety planted throughout California. Plants are in 2" square pot and 3" - 8"+ Tall
