Descripción del Artículo
1883 No Cents Liberty Nickel ... Rare in Good to Fair Condition See Photos, Includes FREE Shipping ... The 1883 "No Cents" Liberty Nickel is a captivating piece of American coinage history, famous for an oversight that quickly led to a curious chapter in numismatics. When the new Liberty Head nickel was first introduced in 1883, its reverse featured a large Roman numeral "V" (for five) within a wreath, but conspicuously lacked the word "CENTS." This omission presented an opportunity for unscrupulous individuals who would gold-plate these new nickels and pass them off as $5 gold pieces, which were similar in size. Upon realizing this "racketeer nickel" scam, the U.S. Mint swiftly modified the design to include the word "CENTS" below the "V." Consequently, the 1883 "No Cents" variety had a relatively short production run, making it a distinct one-year type and a highly sought-after coin among collectors, despite its relatively common availability in lower circulated grades due to public hoarding at the time. Note the U.S. valuable coin market on-average 7% return Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) projected collectible coin market to reach $160 Billion revenue by 2033.
