1946 Vintage Picture Postcard Artists Rendering of Spring Baseball Training Quarters would make a nice framed artwork home decor item for any sports or baseball fan! Postmarked FEB 28 1946 ST PETERSBURG FL, with 1 cent postage stamp. Only 3 sides of the postage stamp have perforations. Personal message from "Eddie Hare" clearly typed on (what is now) a vintage typewriter. Beautiful full color artists rendering Titled: 206:-Waterfront Park, Spring Baseball Training Quarters, St. Petersburg, Florida. It is interesting to note the cars lined up along the street in the foreground, the close (and visually open) proximity of the baseball field along a stone path with spectators lined up along the fence to watch, and the ocean in the background. Looking at the rendering, it appears from the (canvas like) texture that it might have originally been an oil painting, there is great attention to all the little details, (if you look closely, you can see people in the stands behind the high fence at the far baseball diamond. The message from "Eddie Hare" who was apparently at that Spring Training Camp in 1946 wrote a message to a former team mate about the "new Cardinal Manager (Eddie Dyer)" and that he put his arm around his shoulder, (Eddie Dyer was one of the "Rickey men" who built baseball's first farm system). The sender (Eddie Hare) also mentions going to the clubhouse and speaking with someone named "Enos Slaughter". Baseball Hall of Famer Enos Slaughter’s (enshrined in Cooperstown in 1985) even had a nickname - from his “Mad Dash” in Game Seven of the 1946 World Series. But I could not find any information about Eddie Hare, but maybe a baseball fan somewhere, or someone who was at that training camp in 1946 would remember. Martin, (the recipient of this card) could have answered all our questions, but he passed away in 2009. He was a minor league player in NJ at the time, and we are still going through his saved news clipping to piece it all together, and we we wondering if Eddie Hare's family was doing the same. It would be wonderful to know what happened to Eddie Hare, if he had a family, if he ever made it on the team, and where he is now. CONDITION: Surprisingly fair condition, no pin holes (this card meant a lot to him in 1946), The back address side has a few slight smudges, and there is some discoloring along the edges, very minimal wear on the corners, but the artwork is clear and the printing is clear and readable. This would be a wonderful addition to any Baseball fan's collection, or anyone who enjoys beautiful artwork, history and postcard collectors... or if Eddie Hare's family is trying to piece together their family history. ******** Hello there, thank you for stopping by to look at my items!.
