1962 World Series TICKET STUB Game 2 at Candlestick Park Lower Box Box 1H seat 4 October 5, 1962 San Francisco Giants, 2/NY Yankees, 0 In game 2 the Giants scored 2 runs. First, when Chuck Hiller hit a leadoff double off Ralph Terry and scored on two ground-outs. With the Giants protecting a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning, Willie McCovey smashed a home run over the right field fence to boost the 24 game winner, Jack Sanford, to a 2-0 shutout of the Yankees. Lt crease at W edge No other creases No staple marks, writing or pinholes Tiny bottom SW corner lift 1/8" indent in finish at W edge (probably faint finger nail imprint) Rear paper loss on southern edge Clean on both sides Crisp coloring Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays met again for the first time since 1951 in this World Series which was also the first World Series ever played in San Francisco. Many of the all time greats played...Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Roger Maris and for the Giants, Willie Mays and Don Larsen...to name just a few! The 1962 World Series was the last series in what had been the Yankee's long winning streak. (It would take another 15 years before the Yankees would win again.) As previously mentioned, the Giants scored two runs in Game 2, in the first when Chuck Hiller hit a lead-off double off Ralph Terry and scored on two ground outs, then in the seventh when Willie McCovey smashed a tremendous home run over the right-field fence to boost 24-game winner Jack Sanford to a 2?0 shutout of the Yankees, who managed only three hits. In Game Four, Chuck Hiller became the first National League player to hit a grand slam in World Series play. In Game 7 the Yankees scored a single run in the fifth inning when Tony Kubek hit into a double play, and the score was still 1-0 when the Giants came up in the bottom of the ninth. Pinch-hitter Matty Alou led off with a bunt, and after two strikeouts he advanced to third when Willie Mays doubled. It looked like the Giants would prevail when Willie McCovey smashed a screaming line drive; but, he hit it right at Yankee second baseman Bobby Richardson, who caught the ball to end the Series. Jack Sanford and Ralph Terry had faced off in Game 7, and both were very good but the NY YANKEES took it in 7 games. The Yankees had won their 20th title in 25 appearances occurring over a 40 year span. Mailed insured in toploader. Combo shipping available and, thanks for looking! Please take note: It has been brought to my attention that many tickets presented for sale have been reproduced (photocopied) or have been bought previously as reproductions and modified in order to mis-represent them as being originals. Though it may be only a matter of time before encapsulated and graded tickets are counterfeited, it is my preference to have my tickets professionally graded; however, with the increase in prices, the higher minimums and the long turn-around time involved (e.g. PSA now takes about 8 months), it has become problematic. With this in mind, if any of my ungraded tickets are graded by the buyer in the future and are deemed to be unauthentic, regardless of when the sale was made, a complete refund will be made. If you care to, you can study my reviews. I have sold ticket stubs for many years with and without grading without ever needing to refund one ticket.
