Descripción del Artículo
Wedgwood Jasperware medallion featuring Mr. and Mrs. Harry M. Buten, founders of the Buten Museum of Wedgwood. The medallion, made of unglazed stoneware, has a dark blue background with a white relief profile of the couple. It was created in 1972.
Jasperware is a type of stoneware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, known for its matte finish and classical motifs. Wedgwood's signature blue hue is a hallmark of this enduring luxury material. The medallions are typically marked with "WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND" and often include other inscriptions.
The Buten Museum of Wedgwood was operated by Harry and Nettie Buten from 1958 to 1988. The medallion was part of their collection before being placed on long-term loan with Nassau County Museums.
