A Victorian era belt buckle crafted by hand from gilt metal and gems. This belt buckle is possibly silver as there is some rainbow colour tarnishing but am i am not sure andI would have to scratch the gilt off the know what metal is covered by the gilt this item sells as unknown but possibly silver, metal with gold gilt. The middle gem is a very lightly coloured carved rose pink quartz gem, the carving is of the body of a peacock with the tail low as it perches in foliage. The two discs are Bi discs, these are carved circles of in this case, Jadeite Jade, that were said to bring good luck. The gemstones on this piece are untreated natural Rose Quartz and Jadeite Jade. This although a belt buckle is not something that would be used today as this belt buckle would have originally gone with a silk or linen belt which would be much lighter than a modern belt and when this belt buckle was worn it was decorative, not for taking load. There is filigree detail around the gemstones, nice hand detailed extra for the piece to stand out. This piece is antique so there is light patina, wear etc with the piece however none of the gems are cracked or chipped and the piece as a whole is good and very unworn. Let this piece adorn your cabinet.
