Antique Japanese Edo Period Moriage Slip Pottery Charger Plate showing Deity or Immortal
Similar to cloisonne in appearance and design, moriage designs are applied using slip (a clay product) on top of the pottery and then fired. Moriage dates back to the 17th century in Japan and the creation of what is now called Satsuma.
The Edo period (????, Edo jidai) or Tokugawa period (????, Tokugawa jidai) is the period between 1603 and 1867 in the history of Japan, when Japan was under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate and the country's 300 regional daimyo.
Measures 11.75" in diameter.
