Featured is a verse from the Song of the Bell, by Friedrich Schiller written in the early 1800?s. This sampler is embroidered in old German and it reads: Holder Friede, süsse Eintracht, weilet, freundlich Unter diesen Dach. Which translates to something like; Gentle Concord Kindly Peace Ah, tarry Friendship under this roof. The poem was embroidered on punch hole paper with some glitter on it. The whole picture is a combination of painting, stitching, pressed ferns and flowers (I think these are edelweiss). In the center is an embroidered house with a paper die cut angel sitting in a window. A wonderful antique German European embroidery sampler poem (see photos). The sampler is in the original wood and gesso picture frame under glass. The item framed in total measures about 18.5 inches high, and it is about 14.5 inches wide. The frame has gesso chips and losses, has finish paint loss, and some wear (see photos). The sampler has been protected under glass, and it has some wear (see photos and / or written description for the condition of this item).
