Descripción del Artículo

Barite and Fluorite Mineral Specimen - Large ~ Blanchard Mine New Mexico Large 1 LB 1 OZ SIZE from New Mexico are found in deposits in various regions, particularly in the southern and southwestern parts of the state, such as the Hansonburg and Burro Mountains districts. These minerals often form together in fissure veins and replacement deposits, with fluorite appearing in various colors like blue and purple, and barite as white blades or crystals. While commercial production has been limited, notable locations include the Blanchard Mine in Socorro County and the Foster Mine in Grant County. Geological and mineralogical information Formation: The deposits were formed by mineral-rich fluids leached from source rocks by heat from magmatic activity. These fluids then flowed along open spaces and fractures in the earth's crust, depositing minerals as they cooled and their chemistry changed. Common associations: Barite and fluorite are frequently found together in the same deposits. They can also be associated with other minerals like quartz, galena, cerussite, and wulfenite. Mineral appearance: Fluorite: Often found as cubes and can be colorless, yellow, blue, purple, or black. Barite: Typically forms as white blades or crystals, sometimes accenting the fluorite. Key locations in New Mexico Hansonburg District, Socorro County: Known for the Blanchard Mine, a famous location for barite and blue fluorite specimens. Burro Mountains, Grant County: Contains deposits such as the Foster Mine, one of the oldest fluorspar mines in the state. Organ Mountains, Doña Ana County: Has deposits like the Memphis Mine and the White Spar deposit, which have yielded barite with some associated fluorite. Other areas: Deposits have also been noted in the Caballo Mountains, Cooke's Range, and Zuni Mountains.
