These more modern chips run cooler and last longer than the original Commodore PLA's. They are 100% compatible, I have run lots of games and timing critical demos as well as testing them with newer peripherals for them.
These chips will be programmed to work with your Commodore 64 prior to shipping - they will not need programming. (I have been asked this a few times).
