Thai crafted teak Majchanu Dimensions: 1’ 8” wide x 2’ 8” tall Weight: 18 pounds 4.5 ounces Unique handicraft on solid teak wood for your display and collection. Crafted in Chiang Mai Thailand Crafted Teak Majchanu (Thai handcrafted) A very unique crafted teak, the beautiful Thai handcrafted work from the Northern Villagers of Thailand. Note: one lotus stem on his left hand was broken from transporting, but it was fixed and secure. Shipping with insurance. This art tells the story of Majchanu: Majchanu is the son of Hanuman and Suvanna Majcha(in Khmer), Suphanna Majcha(in Thai) that appears in the Ramayana. Suvanna Majcha is a mermaid princess, a daughter of Ravana (the demon who had abducted Sita) that appears in the Cambodian and Thai versions of the Ramayana. She tried to spoil Hanuman’s plan to build a bridge to Lanka, but falls in love with him instead and had a son with Hanuman. She gave birth to his son at the seashore and left him there. Myarap, a giant, the king of Underground (Badan) city found him and adopted him. As the son of Hanuman Majchanu has the body as hanuman and has the tail as fish like his mother. Hanuman faces his mermaid son in battle. During one of the many battles with Ravana’s armies, Hanuman encounters a particularly powerful enemy with the tail of a fish. Initially, Hanuman does not recognize that this demon creature is his own son by the mermaid daughter of Ravana. Hanuman, in his eight-armed form, looks up from battling a fish-tailed enemy to see a small gold twinkling star above him in the dark sky. As he holds up his sword and trident in mid-air, the star reveals that the enemy he is about to harm is his own son by Ravana’s mermaid daughter. Hanuman’s mermaid son crawls near his feet, also looking up at the star. Once the father and son hear the star’s news, they immediately recognize each other and stop fighting.
